Most 10 Eco-Friendly Cities – Top 10 List
Many countries and city governments have been taking action in order to clean up the messes of the past. Ecology has become one of the major philosophies in all societies, as we, as a people, have a goal to leave the Earth for our descendants in a better state than when we found it. If we can follow the example set by these Top 10 Eco-Friendly Cities of the world, we’ll be well on our way to sustaining Earth for many more generations to come.

10. Oslo, Norway
Eco-efficiency is important in this city, and it begins with grass-roots involvement. Oslo residents are encouraged to clean up, go green, and create a climate that features better air quality, eco-efficiency, biodiversity, and an abundance of clean, natural resources. The streets of Oslo look fantastic, due to local contributions being made to keep the area sustainable and highly-functioning for all of its residents.
9. Stockholm, Sweden
Stockholm is among the cleanest cities in the world. It was the first city to win the European Green Capital Award, and it has a noble long-term plan to be fossil fuel free by 2050. The riverside city is stunning and features lots of natural landscape, such as beautiful trees navigated by cycling paths. Environmental policies are prioritised in Stockholm, and as such, the streets are clean and the urban city has a country-like feel to it, despite having tall buildings and a large number of residences.
8. Columbia, Missouri, United States
Investing the time to become an eco-friendly city certainly has its benefits, such as energy reduction which in turn lowers costs and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. In Columbia, Missouri, businesses are incentivised to improve their energy efficiency though a city-wide grant system. Columbia’s City Green program determines how much energy a particular business uses, and then offers to pay for half the cost of an energy audit. Once the audit is completed, the city will pay for repairs up to ,500. To keep the city looking great, Columbia has a number of green groups, which are coalitions of like-minded people who collaborate to achieve common environmental goals. These groups clean rivers, restore animal habitats, and promote beautification, restoration, and citywide recycling.
7. Vancouver, Canada
Vancouver’s most notable performance is in the area of CO2 emissions. In The Green City Index, Vancouver boasts the lowest greenhouse gas emissions per capita of any city. Additionally, the city’s ecological goals include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent and planting 150,000 new trees by 2020, making it one of the greenest cities on the map both literally and figuratively speaking.
6. Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, South Africa
These three towns in Africa all share a spot on the greenest cities list. It is very hard to pick just one city since all these three are very strong in different categories. For example, Cape Town and Johannesburg is said to have most green spaces in the whole continent. While Durban managed to take a lead because of its target to become a zero-waste city within 20 years and carbon neutral by 2050.
5. San Francisco, United States
San Francisco used to be a capital city of the Hippy movement, but it would be wrong to say that this is the only reason this city is one of the greenest around the globe and the most ecological in North America. This city was the first in the United States to introduce the coloured bins recycling system to homes and workplaces, making recycling easy and accessible, and more importantly — legally obligatory. The fantastic public transport system and government’s encouragement for people to use more electric cars also helped San Francisco to be one of the eco-friendliest cities in the world.

RECYCLING AND UPCYCLING CAN BE FUN AND EASY
Recycling is a key to saving this world. By recycling the old things, we consume less. It doesn’t only help to save the mney, but also helps not to produce more waste. Look closer at the things you wanted to throw away – what’s there? I bet there are plastic bottles, old toys and clothes, toilet paper rolls, old pool noodles… Did you know that you can turn all this (seemingly) useless stuff into something really cool and exciting? All you need is a bit of inspiration (and our valuable tips for kids, of course). Let’s start turning trash into treasure!
For example, pool noodles can be a cool decoration for your room. Check out that classy thing that we’ve made.
Another cool idea is definitley handy for this cold winter. You can make your home a brighter place by simply adding a couple of cute cushions. A cushioncan be made out of an old sweater.
A bunch of plastic bottles can be a cool chair – it’s also very comfortable, and what’s also important, it costs you nothing.
Don’t forget to check out our lovely pompom ideas! You can do so many cool things using yarn.
Another adorable idea is making marionettes using toilet paper rolls, threads, and bottle caps.
Watch this video up to the end, and you will see that there are so many cool ideas you can bring to life!

What are the environmental benefits of solar energy?
Solar isn’t just great for your wallet, it’s also an environmentally-friendly energy choice. Here are some of the many environmental benefits you’ll enjoy if you switch to solar energy.
To start, solar is a renewable resource, which means it is abundant and replenishes quickly. Compare this to fossil fuels which exist in a limited supply and replenish very slowly. Here’s a fun fact: enough solar energy hits the earth each hour to power the entire world for an entire year.
Additionally, harnessing solar energy is a low-impact process compared to harvesting fossil fuels. Drilling for oil involves digging deep into the earth and interfering with our natural environment. On the other hand, setting up a new solar panel installation has a much lower environmental impact. This is because – unlike traditional power plants – solar is commonly installed on existing structures or otherwise unusable plots of land – such as rooftops, over parking lots, or on landfills.
Solar energy is also an emission-free, clean source of power. Generating energy with fossil fuels increases carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere, which contributes to global climate change. Using fossil fuels also releases additional pollutants and toxins into the atmosphere and water supply. After you install solar panels, you’ll use less electricity generated from coal, oil and gas – this lowers your carbon footprint and helps protect the environment.
When you compare options for solar on the EnergySage Marketplace, your quotes will show you how much pollution you’ll personally offset by making the switch to solar power.

Hello I am the Earth, yup the very planet you live on. There are three words which start with the letter R which I love. They are: Reduce, reuse and recycle. Do you know why I love them so much? Because they are almost magical words. Together they can make all living things as well as myself be happier. I said that they are “almost” magical because without your help it won’t work, they need all of you children in order to do the trick. Each and every one of you are the real 3Rs magicians, those three words which can change the world. Do you want to know how? Yes? Well let’s find out.
The first R is for reduce. If you think about it, there are many things you don’t need. When you go to the supermarket, I am sure you could take your own canvas bags instead of using disposable ones given to you. This way you will be reducing the amount of plastic which is very contaminating. And I am sure that you don’t need to print out so many documents or photos, nor leave the lights, television or computer on when you are not using them. If you remember this, you will be reducing the amount of paper being used as well as energy, and in turn will be helping reduce the contamination. And these are just a few examples. I am sure you can think of many more different ways to reduce what you are using or creating unnecessary waste. The following question will help you with this task: Do I really need this or is this just a whim?
The second R is for recycling. Now it is easier than ever to recycle things we don’t need any more so that they can be reused. Near your home you can find places, like the recycling station and containers for cans, plastic, paper or organic waste. They each have their specific colors to make them easier. By using them, you will avoid contaminating nature, the rivers and seas as well as the atmosphere, which is the air we breathe.
And finally we have the third R, which refers to reuse. How many things do you think we can reuse again and again instead of throwing them away? Let´s see…a piece of paper that has only one side printed on it, a carton box, a plastic bottle…you think now. With just a bit of imagination, I am sure you will come up with many more exciting and fun new uses for them.
And remember: if you apply the 3Rs rule, you will make me a much cleaner planet, with less contamination and where we all can enjoy a better life.
Because as you know…children can make the world of difference.
