How Solar PV technology works

Energy Efficiency No Comments »

Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology converts sunlight directly into electricity. It works by harnessing the energy in sunlight to create an electrical current through a semiconductor material.

The basic components of a solar PV system are:

Solar panels (also called photovoltaic modules) made up of multiple solar cells connected in series.
An inverter that converts the direct current (DC) produced by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) that can be used in homes and businesses.
Electrical wiring that connects the solar panels to the inverter and the inverter to the electrical grid or battery storage system.

Second Grade Next Generation Science Standards

Disciplinary Core Ideas:
ETS1.A : Defining and Delimiting Engineering Problems – A situation that people want to change or create can be approached as a problem to be solved through engineering (K-2-ETS1-1).

Performance Expectations:
K-2-ETS1-1 Ask questions, make observations, and gather information about a situation people want to change to define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool.
K-2-ETS1-2 Develop a simple sketch, drawing, or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given problem.

Why Australia Will Be The World's New Energy Superpower

Abundant sunshine, wind and various critical resources give Australia a distinct advantage when it comes to the green energy transition. So can it lead the charge and become a clean energy superpower?! Australian correspondent Rosie, who you may recognise from her own channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/engineeringwithrosie) , looks at how the country could be charting its path to 100% renewables from wind, solar, storage and interconnectors as well as creating a hotbed of minerals and resources needed for electric vehicles. Enjoy!

RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES

Renewable Energy No Comments »

Did you know that for the world to function as we know it, it needs different types of energy, but on many occasions this energy pollutes our planet a lot.
In this video we are going to learn about the types of energy that do not pollute called: Renewable Energies or Green Energies.
Although they are numerous, we are going to know the most used ones:
SOLAR ENERGY
HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY
WIND ENERGY
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

Journey to the heart of Energy – How a biomass power plant works

Alternative Energy No Comments »

Discover in video how a biomass power plant works. In a biomass power plant, electricity is generated using the heat produced by the combustion of organic materials, such as plant residues, household waste and the biogas.

Biomass or Bioenergy refers to the use of organic material to produce energy.

National Labs Improving Photovoltaic Technology

Energy Efficiency No Comments »

Solar photovoltaic technology continues to improve as scientists develop panels that are able to last even longer and convert increasing amounts of sunlight into electricity. SunShot Initiative projects at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory are working to develop solutions that will reduce the cost of solar panels by allowing them to transform more of the sun’s rays into electricity for decades to come. Learn more about SunShot’s 2030 goals at energy.gov/sunshot2030.
